Hard-earned or simply needed?

Hard-earned or simply needed? A coin fallen in the canal removes fear from the boy to go down and pick it up amidst uncleanness and danger.

And as Thou didst turn the curse of the wicked Balaam into a blessing, so do Thou turn all my dreams for me into good."
